That\u2019s what makes them special\u2014and what can make it difficult to connect with each one in an authentic and relevant way.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donor personas are the tried-and-true tool you need to raise more donors by respecting these beautiful differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you sit down to write copy for your donation page, fundraising appeal, email appeals, or any donor communication, it can be scary to try to say something that will resonate with all of your donors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herding cats might even be easier\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"width:100%;height:0;padding-bottom:56%;position:relative\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What may resonate with one donor could possibly repel another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So how do you interact with online donors in a personal way when every donor is unique in their values, needs, and situations?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By creating donor personas, you can connect meaningfully with your donors, craft efficient campaigns, and increase donor response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are Donor Personas?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donor personas are written profiles of imaginary people who represent a segment of your donor base or potential donor base with similar characteristics, values, and life situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the profile itself might be fictitious, it defines very real people within the audiences you target.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cPersonas are simply the different types of people you are reaching. For your organization, they might be \u2018college advocates,\u2019 \u2018concerned moms\u2019 or \u2018seasoned donors seeking a legacy.\u2019\u201d <\/p><cite>Gabe Cooper<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Donor personas give you an at-a-glance reference for the likes and dislikes, struggles, desires, perceptions, and expectations of the different groups within your donor base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, let\u2019s say you run an animal shelter where you rescue animals and try to find them a forever home. One of your donor profiles could be like this\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Name:<\/strong> Darlene Donor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Age:<\/strong> 35 \u2013 50<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Description:<\/strong> Darlene is unmarried and works at Main Street at a small local business run by a friend. The family pets in her home were a part of her favorite memories growing up. In fact, they were family. class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can get as granular or as big picture as you need to be on this kind of data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This really is the best place to start when creating a donor profile.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Demographical data helps give donor profiles context as you can see at a glance the culture, history, and area that has shaped them into who they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These data can also help you make connections you wouldn\u2019t have seen otherwise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, when you describe what it\u2019s like to get a job when you\u2019re an ex-offender re-entering society, you could tie this into the frustration a lot of young people feel as they hunt for someone willing to hire them even without work experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Occupational Data<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the demographic data might give us some insights into why a donor would be motivated to give and a view into their daily life, a donor\u2019s occupational data gives us a better view of their <em>capacity<\/em> to give.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Occupational data can include their:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Socioeconomic status<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Average income<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Educational level<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industry in which they work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Psychographics<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psychographics are data on your persona\u2019s attitudes, values, or fears.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this section, your donor profile should answer questions like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are their goals, power from the psychographic section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you have a good idea of how your donor thinks, you can better understand how to connect them to your
